Perched on the top of a limestone hill, 18 km southwest of Battambang, Wat Phnom Sampeu was on the front line of government forces and positions of the Khmer Rouge. This mountain, full of caves, served as a mass grave. The Khmer Rouge bludgeoned the victims before pushing them into the abysses. The Killing Caves of Wat Phnom Sampeu are infamous.
The mountain offers a beautiful view over the rice fields of Battambang.
A ticket to enter the temple is 2$ per day. Keep the ticket so that you can enter the other temples, too.
